A lot of updates to report on this time around. Reading lists and personal notes got reviewed and put into more places. Statistics got a long needed upgrade, image upload in texts. Finally we are adding more of our mascots into the design.

Reading lists

Reading lists got a sizable upgrade. Reading lists now finally show to the public (if you so choose to) on profile page or blog. Reading lists are now also available to groups. Finally you can also add your won stories and universes to the reading lists so that you can build reading lists of your own work.

Personal notes

Nothing has changed here feature wise, but we did a performance review and things should be a bit faster with this feature.

Statistics

Statistics got a major overhaul in the backend. This allowed us to move from our old structure to a new one which is more flexible and should be better suited for the future with better performance. We also used this opportunity to expand with new values so that we can provide more information in the future.

But what you will be able to see is a new design of displaying the statistics. The pages them self followed the new page headers and graphs & tables are sporting a new look.

More advance statistics for subscribers are the next step in this area.

Image upload improvements for text

We had the hidden option to add images to texts for a while, but it has been severely limited and open secret for a reason. From today we have changed the system and you can now upload any .jpg, .png or .webp images by dragging and dropping them into the text field.

Sadly we still don’t have a menu item for this. We tried, but there have been more issue that we couldn’t solve at this point in time. We wanted to get this out to you as soon as possible so we opted to release what we knew was working. That said we will be upgrading the text editor as soon as other outside dependencies allow so then we plan to add a lot more options to the text editor.

New look with mascots

On a more fun and noticeable immediately side we have started adding our mascots through the design. So far you can see it in the library and workshop.

You will notice new icons for sub-sections that are more expressive about the section and you will notice our mascots in the decorative headers.

This is part of our ongoing efforts to improve the look of Literary Universe. We are moving to use more our mascots and uplift the feel of our website. We will be trying various things and we are looking forward to our feedback.

For the light theme we want to have a fantasy like theme and we seek a lot of inspiration in Art Nouveau, while for the dark theme we want to have sci-fi look with Art Deco as an inspiration. We have a long way to go in that aspect and trying to mesh those two styles into web design (especially Art Nouveau that likes a lot of natural shapes).

We’ll be reaching out on our Discord with design proposals, so join us there to get a look on what we are thinking.
