New story settings & open standards
We have some additions to your story settings and we are introducing open standards so that your stories can be better categorized and found by readers.
After our previous massive update, the update for the second half of February has been more feature focused. AI coding tools have enabled us to tackle previously delayed tasks.
New info pages
Our DMCA and GDPR pages got an update. They now feature up-to-date information and an improved design.
We've made comparison pages with other services, but our analysis and wording are still in progress. You'll need the direct address to view them for now.
Story dangerous area
At the bottom of story settings there is a new red area. This is an area for dangerous actions that you can do with your story. For now we have two actions available. One is to move a story into a universe (or create a universe from the story) and the opposite (move story from a universe).
In the future we will expand this section as we work on more features.
Content warnings
In the story settings you will now find content warnings in the story settigns and on the story page in discovery. These ratings are for Graphic Violence, Profanity, Sensitive Content, Sexual Content.
We think these should be enough to cover most use cases. In addition selecting these will adjust your age rating, if you are bellow the minimum for that content, so that you don’t fall bellow the minimum what is acceptable. With the exception of Sexual Content you will be able to adjust it, though we only recommend adjusting upward.
Initial paragraph letter
Adventurer tier and above now have a new menu item and menu in the editor is going to apear on selection in a paragraph or on an empty line. This menu is for paragraph wide changes or blocks. The first thing that we are adding is option to setup initial letter for paragraph. This first letter in the paragraph will grow to fit across 3 lines. This allows to add more style to your writing and copy the decorative initial paragraph letters of the ancient scripts (maybe something to do in the future if people like this).
Template universes expanded
Or to be more precise our vision is complete. A while back we have introduced an option to set an universe as a template universe that others can copy the content of the encyclopedia to their own universe.
Today we have expanded that so that you can search for these universes in discovery and there is a new option in the homepage of the encyclopedia to create a new universe into which copy over the content of that encyclopedia.
Thema, DOI & ISSN
Now, what is hidden beneath all these acronyms? DOI and ISSN are similar to ISBN in that they help to track items. This is for published properties. Right now we will use these to track existing works for copyright and statistics reasons.
Thema is a categorization for libraries. These will help with categorization and we recommend setting them up for your stories as we will increasingly use them for search and discovery and they will show up to readers as a tag. The consistency will really help in the future in the recommendation engine as well.
You can now add all of these in the story settings.
Thema is part of open standards and we will endevor to integrate more of them. We are looking into ONIX and other. If there is some open standard that you would like us to integrate, please let us know via our feedback form.
