Mission & Vision

Supremacy of human imagination

To make authorship a livable craft, so human imagination endures.

Literary Universe is more than a platform — it is a mission-driven company grounded in values that guide every decision. We strive to build a company that endures for generations, combining innovation with respect for history and tradition. Inspired by Simon Sinek's The Infinite Game and family-run Japanese businesses, we aim to build something lasting and meaningful for authors and readers alike.

Our cause

Most authors earn little to nothing from their work, often undervaluing their creations by giving them away. Literary Universe gives authors the resources to produce, promote, and profit from their work, enabling them to pursue writing as a real career. When our authors succeed, we succeed.

Stories are vital to society — they inspire and teach across generations. Yet new pressures, including the rapid commodification of creative output by AI, risk dissuading future authors from entering the craft. And as a result even the AI tools will start to suffer from the lack of human generated content to learn from. Literary Universe gives writers the tools, community, and encouragement to flourish, nurturing creativity and literacy from a young age by reaching out to schools and communities.

We simplify the creative process by integrating everything authors and readers need into a single platform. From creating stories to managing intellectual property to building a fanbase, Literary Universe is the central hub — ensuring authors have full visibility and control over their work and its connections.

Core values

Supremacy of Human Imagination

We believe human creativity is irreplaceable. AI assists but must never supplants the author's voice. We actively combat low-effort AI slop through labeling, filtering, and prioritization of human-authored works. We will support initiatives for passing down the craft and support authors.

Get authors paid

A platform that fails its creators eventually fails its readers. Author income is our primary product metric, not a downstream consequence. Transparent economics, clear ownership terms, and fair revenue shares are non-negotiable.

Supporting new generations of writers

Education, mentorship, and on-boarding are core to the platform — not optional add-ons. Workshops, writing challenges, and accessible craft resources help new authors flourish.

A one-stop shop

Authors and readers should not have to assemble their creative or reading lives from a half-dozen disconnected services. Literary Universe brings creation, publishing, discovery, community, and monetization into a single connected experience.

Creative freedom

Creativity thrives on freedom. We support authors' ability to explore complex ideas while adhering to copyright laws and ethical boundaries. We avoid operating in totalitarian countries where free expression cannot be upheld.

Pro-family and pro-humanity

We believe stories help families, communities, and civilizations transmit wisdom, courage, imagination, and memory across generations. We support a company culture that respects family life, long-term health, and meaningful work. Family subscriptions and parental controls are first-class features, not afterthoughts. We reject technology that treats humans as disposable inputs or attention units.

Freedom and meritocracy

We reject locking users into our platform or advancing political agendas. We earn loyalty through excellence and integrity, fostering a space where merit and innovation thrive. In an era of declining trust in large platforms — marked by opaque rule changes, exploitative advertising, weakened creator control, and recurring "platform betrayal" cycles — founder mission control serves as a guarantor that the mission stays on track.

Transparency

Authors deserve full visibility into sales, payouts, and the rules that govern them. Literary Universe promotes trust through clear, accessible data on the platform.

Ergonomic to human flourishing

Accelerate human flourishing. We support creativity and human well-being, ensuring the platform uplifts users rather than exploiting them. By highlighting meaningful content, we foster inspiration and deeper connection. We will not build a business model around exploiting reader data or manipulating attention through addictive design. We will invest into in-person events to foster human connection and community.

Respect for history and tradition

We value the lessons of the past and the stability of tradition. By innovating with technology, we link digital and physical formats, collaborating with traditional publishers for mutual growth.

Vision

Fiercely loyal customers

We aim to be more than a product. By fostering community and offering exceptional support, we create a space authors and readers are proud to call home. Local meetups and personalized support for top-tier subscribers strengthen these bonds.

Niche dominance

Rather than chasing the general market, we focus on excelling in science fiction, fantasy, and adjacent long-form genres — those that benefit most from our worldbuilding tools. Indie SFF is our beachhead. From there, we expand by genre and geography.

Beyond the platform

We see in-person events and meetups as essential for building meaningful connections. Literary Universe, though digital, encourages face-to-face connection to spark creativity and strengthen bonds.

Future dreams

We dream of initiatives like StoryCon — an annual writers' conference — and of creating spaces where authors can recharge and create, such as retreats or inspirational offices.

Foundational stability

Our immediate goal is to build a stable platform, achieve financial sustainability, and foster a healthy work-life balance for our team. This foundation lets us grow responsibly and endure challenges.

Company culture

Capable individuals and teams

We seek highly skilled people who can excel in a dynamic startup environment. Team trust and collaboration are vital, supported by events that build camaraderie and resilience.

Open-source philosophy

Open source helps us develop efficiently while contributing to the broader community. It fosters innovation, attracts top talent, and aligns with our values of transparency and freedom. We give back and remain active in the communities that support our success.

Cultural impact

Encouraging long-form content

In an era of short attention spans, we champion long-form storytelling. As long-form podcasts have shown, audiences value meaningful, immersive, thought-provoking content. Our platform is built around the story world — a unit of imagination that can sustain prose, comics, audio, and lore over years.

Ethical AI integration

AI is here. AI should assist authors, not replace them. Literary Universe uses AI for supportive tasks like editing, research, and translation while ensuring human creativity remains central. AI-generated stories are categorized separately and labelled clearly, protecting the prominence of human authors while still allowing experimentation with new technologies and formats. Creators retain control over whether their work can be used to train external AI systems.

Combating slop culture

We are not anti-AI. We believe some creators will eventually build meaningful AI-generated work with real audiences. But the current market is being flooded with AI slop — low-effort, mass-produced, undifferentiated automated content that overwhelms discovery systems, frustrates readers, and makes it harder for skilled authors to be seen and paid. Literary Universe addresses this with clear labeling of human-authored, AI-assisted, and AI-generated content; discovery systems that prioritize trust and quality signals; anti-spam rules against mass-generated uploads; and human curation for important showcases. The goal is not to ban technology — it is to protect meaningful storytelling.

Resisting political sways

We avoid political or ideological agendas that distract from our mission. Literary Universe focuses on fostering creativity and professionalism while respecting diverse perspectives without endorsing activism. Many of the loudest shouting in the news, moral panics, often prove to be nothing more than just a momentary blib or a footnote in the grand story of humanity. That is why our focus is on art and tradition.
